The structure of the alloy and the crack formation and propagation were investigated on sections perpendicular to the fracture plane.
The fracture planes were also analysed.
Metallographic sections for microstructure investigations and longitudinal sections through the fracture plane for examination of the relations between the deformation and disturbance process and the microstructure of the alloy were prepared from selected specimens damaged during the tests.
The fracture planes were subjected to fractographic examination.
The samples looked very similar, their surface was oxidized, contraction was low, the fracture plane was perpendicular to the direction of tension and exhibited dendritic structure patterns.
